Brave and dramatic. Zalewski sings Niemen, and he does it so well that it’s almost scary.
The occasion to add some vigour to Czesław Niemen songs was five years ago, on the 30th anniversary of his performance at the Jarocin festival.
Whoever watched the ’87 cinema newsreels, or – even better – who escaped from parental care to Jarocin, knows or remembers that Niemen could not feel at home at a party dominated by punks and metalheads. However, history says nothing about the excesses accompanying this concert. The irate youth unexpectedly showed the champion the respect he deserved.
Thirty years later, no one needs to be afraid. Other youths show only enthusiasm for Krzysztof Zalewski, and he repays this loan of trust with great interest. He sang Niemen’s songs in Jarocin and became himself: a rock star devoid of complexes, the idol of teenagers and their mothers, a nonchalant dandy on the threshold of his early middle age.
