In Wrocław, where it all began*, Maria Peszek will sing songs from the album “Ave Maria”, about which she said – and most of the listeners agreed – that this might be the most beautiful album she has ever recorded.
Beauty – as we know – is a relative, fluid and ubiquitous category, in spite of bad times and people. The four-letter words and synthesised dissonances are beautiful. The bright colours and emotions are beautiful. We can hear them the better, the softer the girl, 47, sings them. And she uses metaphors and happy-sad puns with virtuosity.
These songs, fighting for the freedom of the soul and body, are an honest, non-aggressive response to the aggression of the politicised world, to orders and prohibitions, to violence in words, deeds and parliamentary acts.
