Twenty lives considered sacred, combined into a story clashing legends with the prose of life. The heroes of the performance, characters we know mainly from sacred images, tell the stories that led them to holiness. They lived in different eras, at different latitudes, their fate were dramatic and grotesque, their heroic and glorious deeds tangled with human meanness and banality.
For some reason, they are raised to the rank of saints, and their stories are considered unique. Their fates, reinterpreted, may turn out to be really up-to-date and tell a lot about the modern world’s problems.
Agata Duda-Gracz looks at the saints from today’s perspective, basing the whole performance on the poetics of ritual, rite and holiday. The stage is a place to explore, without a classic division between the audience and stage.
The performance is a co-production of the Theatre Academy Warsaw and the Four Cultures Festival in Łódź.
