Podlasie bounce – this has never happened before.
Thanks to their Eurovision single “Lusterka” (“Mirrors”), TV-watching Poland had heard of the duo Sw@da x Niczos – not an inexperienced band. The larger half of the country was stunned with delight (and then began rhythmically stomping and clapping). The smaller half sounded the alarm that there is no such thing as a Podlasie language – or if there is, it is more of a dialect.
Sw@da (Wiktor Szczygieł) grew up in Poland and Colombia, and this cultural dialogue certainly plays a part in the ease with which the talented composer and producer creates his electro-techno-afrobeat-dubstep-folk hybrids.
Born in Biała Podlaska, Niczos (Nika Jurczuk) enriches her artistic vocal parts with traditional singing and rap. And in a move that sets her apart from most of the national scene, she sings in Podlasie language – a micro-language spoken by people in the southern part of the Podlaskie Voivodeship.
In 2024, the duo released their debut minialbum “#INDAWOODS”.
2025 promises to be the year of their triumphs.
