In 1994, Vladyslav Troitskyi founded the DAKH Centre for Contemporary Art (Ukrainian: ДАХ) in Kyiv – then the capital of independent Ukraine for four years.
In Old East Slavic, the word “dakh” means the act of giving.
More than thirty years later, DAKH is a dynamic coalition with the intellectual freak cabaret Dakh Daughters as its independent part. Established in 2012, the band consist of multi-talented actresses-singers-instrumentalists inspired by the cosmopolitan rock macabre of The Tiger Lilies but also by the folk tradition of their country.
After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the band found refuge and working conditions in Vire, north of France. And there, a story of war, flight, survival, anger, despair and hope was born:
– Our performance is a testimony to the crimes of the Russian army, the humanitarian tragedy it has caused, and the horrible deaths of civilians in Kharkiv, Mariupol, Sumy, Bucha, Hostomel, Balakliya and many other parts of the country. The performance is also a hymn to the defenders and the Ukrainian people who courageously stand against evil.
