Bachar Mar-Khalifé (vocal, grand piano)
PPA production: Marta Dzwonkowska
A 42-year-old who embodies the essence of a well-to-do bourgeois, he is a Paris Conservatoire graduate, husband and father, debonair and free spirit. His talent is pure gold, and the music he creates – playing Chopin preludes and Sati miniatures, composing tunes of his own or commissioned by film producers – shines like the snowy peaks of the Lebanese mountains he remembers from his childhood in war-torn Beirut. From there, his parents took him to France, a country that educated him and shaped his sensibility but did not take away the soul of a Middle Eastern man. He visits his hometown whenever possible to see relatives and pursue his artistic goals.
In Wrocław, he will perform alone at the piano, which he plays masterfully. How do you describe these songs, sung with a confident, calm and infinitely lyrical voice? Perhaps like this: classical chanson meets its Middle Eastern cousin, in love with poetry and European classical music, mingling with modern dance electronica, flirting with hip-hop and disentangling the melodies of its homeland – restless and beautiful.
