He could have made a lot of money. He barely made ends meet. By choice or by chance?
He could have found a peaceful space outside the system he hated. Yet he functioned on its borders.
Robert Brylewski was one of the most important figures of Polish culture of the last half century. As the leader of the bands Kryzys, Brygada Kryzys, Armia, Izrael, he created music always up to date, skillfully catching the spirit of the times. Yet his art was a dream of a different, better world. About the Gold Rock, to which one can escape from evil of Babylon.
The show is directed by Grzegorz Laszuk, leader of the legendary Komuna Warszawa, once a declared anarchist, today an artist and social activist. The story about the godfather of the Polish punk becomes an opportunity to ask elementary questions about his own life choices. “It’s always good to look back to recognize the destiny we choose,” says the director.
The show reminds Brylewski’s most important songs. Next to the actors of the Studio theatre, important musicians of the contemporary Warsaw alternative appear on the stage, led by Bartek Tyciński, the co-creator of the famous Mitch & Mitch.
This is a real punk reggae party with existential reflection in the background.
