We live in a world of constant noise: sounds, messages, notifications. Noise has become an everyday reality, while silence is a luxury. Our ears, like our entire bodies, are tired. The senses are constantly stimulated by impulses that drown out not only the surroundings but also our inner rhythm of thought.
Inspired by Gustav Mahler’s song “Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen”, we enter a world of silence, which is not the absence of sound. We ask what silence sounds like and what hides inside its apparent emptiness. In this meditation onstage, we listen to microsounds, the trembling of the body, and to what remains unspoken. Broken sentences, frozen thoughts, and emotions become songs that can be heard only in silence.
Silence can be dramatic, but also soothing. It can be violent or become an act of resistance. Sometimes it simply speaks for itself.
