Oxytocin is a neurotransmitter produced by the hypothalamus in our brain and released when we experience closeness — both physical and emotional. It is called the hormone of love and attachment because of its key role in building emotional bonds with a partner, regardless of who that partner is, and regardless of whether you called them before midnight to come over, not talk too much, and leave in the morning without asking for breakfast.
Amelia is doing quite well, dividing her time between work, studies, and countless lovers. Meeting F. forces her to confront a reality that is slightly more complicated than she is willing to admit. “Oxytocin” is a musical meditation on the nature of attachment and the patterns we unconsciously inherit in this area.
